Big Trips Week is Coming Soon!
It's a carnival of trips. Next week there will be an honest cacophony of day hiking, backpacking, kayaking, cycling, rock climbing, canoeing, and car camping trips available, so keep your calendars open. Let's all get outside in beautiful Vermont while the weather is gorgeous!

Mount Abe Sunrise with Andrew and Emma this Friday
Join us for another fantastic sunrise hike up Mt. Abe!
We'll head out early from ADK at 4:20am on Friday morning to catch a 6:45am summit sunrise. The hike is ~6miles round trip and we should be back on campus in time for 9am classes. All experience levels welcome! Be sure to bring some water, a headlamp, and shoes to hike in. Sign up here.

Sunday Afternoon at Abbey Pond with Caitlin and Robin
Come on a short but beautiful meander in the Greens this Sunday afternoon! The Abby Pond trail, just a few minutes from campus offers a 4.2 mile hike with a bit of elevation gain.  Get ready for a beautiful view of the fall colors! We'll leave at 1:00 and be back for early dinner. Sign up here.
Boating Palooza on Sunday
Sumner Falls on the Connecticut allows us to simultaneously run both whitewater and flatwater trips for both canoes and kayaks. This trip is geared toward developing instructors who already have some boating experience and have done prior paddling with the MMC. However, if there is still space on the trip as of Wednesday at noon, the remaining slots will be available to anyone interested. Request a spot here.
Kayaking Pool Session
Want to learn a roll so you can get out on whitewater with the MMC? Come to the pool, Thursday, 6:45-8:15pm. Sign up here.

Led MiddView? Become a Guide.
On Tuesday at 8:00 pm in the Brooker Basement, Kent is putting on a make-up guide bridger for MiddView WE Leaders who could not come last week. Sign up here.

Didn't Lead MiddView? Become a Guide Anyway!
This is the "class" portion of the guide seminar, your first step towards becoming a Mountain Club Guide! These trainings will happen on campus and are accompanied by a trip at the end of the classes. They occur every Thursday from 4:00-6:00 in the FIC starting this week (the 1st) and continuing for the next four, with different material each week. After these sessions you will put these skills to use in the trip component of the guide seminar! Sign up here! Email KRatliff@middlebury.edu if you have a conflict.

The Climbing Wall is Open
An announcement from our friends at the climbing wall: they're open. Come on down and visit them in Nelson Arena Monday-Thursday from 4-9, Fridays from 4-6, and Sundays from 6-9! Already a frequent member? Apply to be a wall monitor on the SEO website ASAP!

Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge
Middlebury College is taking part in the Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge! The ON Campus Challenge is a six week challenge that began last week and goes on until October 17th where 59 colleges across the country are competing to win the title of Outdoor Champion! The goal is to get more of the Middlebury community outdoors - students, staff, faculty, and community members. To take part in the challenge, students must make a profile at ONcampuschallenge.org and log in to submit an activity. Some activities that count for the challenge are hiking, swimming, stargazing, hammocking, camping, and more! Photo verification of you or your group doing the activity is required.
