[mmc-l] Pumpkin Tumble, Parent's Weekend, and Fall Break!

Hey folks!  Here's what's coming up for MMC this week and beyond

Pumpkin Tumble Friday October 5th at 4pm!

Our annual fall festival is upon us!  Come out to Brooker patio for apple bobbing, pumpkin carving (whoever does the MMC logo wins a caramel apple!), lumberjack competitions, pie baking contests, cider donuts, and more fall festivites.  It's supposed to rain all week, but the sun'll come out on Friday for us (we got personal confirmation on that one).

Adventure Race October 6th!

Craftsbury Outdoor Center in Craftsbury, VT is hosting the Checkpoint Challenge -- a unique endurance & adventure race wherein teams navigate around the Craftsbury campus, completing various challenges along the way. The checkpoints are designed to be physically and tactically difficult: think of things like felling a tree, building a structure, lighting a fire, solving a brain teaser, etc.  Teams of 4 can register for 80$ (MMC will cover your registration fee!).    Disclaimer: the race is a 2.5 hours drive away (note the change: participants will need to provide transportation and food) registration starts at 12pm, race starts at 2pm.  To sign up (either as a team or individually) email Tess at by Wednesday at the latest.

Parent's Weekend Day-Hike with Maya and Anna RC, Sunday October 7th

Join Maya and Anna for the quintessential Vermont day hike up one of our favorite mountains--Camel's Hump!  Show your 'rents a good piece of Vermont while they're here.  We will leave at 8am from ADK circle and plan to be back around 2pm.  Picnic lunch provided. Oh yeah.  Some hiking experience recommended, lots of small layers required.  Email to sign up.

New Website Features

1) Grand Opening: GUIDE FORUM
Do you need a co-lead? Are you a current guide available to do a co-lead? Your scheduling solution has arrived: announcing our brand spanking new guide forum, masterpiece of Webmaster Engstrom. Go to our guides page and click on guide forum. Add a comment and find someone to lead with!

2) MMC Online Guidebook submissions:
Know of a cool spot that other middkids should visit? MMC is compiling a list of our favorite hikes, swimming holes, paddles, or climbs to serve as inspiration and reference when planning future excursions. We're especially looking for places off the beaten track: for example, it is already pretty well documented online how to get to Camel's Hump. If you have a submission, email Casey (cengstro@midd) with the name of the place, how to find it on a map, length of trip, and anything else you'd like to share. Photos optional. To see what we've got so far, go/mmc, and follow the"Places" link.

Additional WFA Opportunity: November 17-18

Aren't around to take SOLO WFA through MOP?  Need WFA to become and MMC guide?  Here's another option close to Middlebury on November 17-18.  WFA and WFR Re-cert and CPR available. Remember: become a guide and lead three trips and MMC will reimburse your certification fee! Go here for more info:

To get a 15-passenger van license (preferred), you need to have had your state license for 3+ years, attend a classroom session and then schedule a road test with Ed. Email him at to sign up for a class.
