[mmc-l] Coming up for MMC

MMC MEETING

Come out for the final MMC meeting of J-Term! Monday 6:15  La Force 121 (to the left of Ross dining hall entrance)

OINK MIDDVIEW SGA BILL (a message from our hard-working SGA reps)

Hello!

Please come and support orientation trips this Sunday (1/29) at 7 PM in the Crest Room!

I'm emailing you about the OINK MIDDVIEW bill that was successfully passed last week (see attached). The bill passed, but there has since been backlash (http://midd-blog.com/2012/01/24/sga-sound-off-thoughts-on-earnest-discussion-needed-debate-and-the-problems-of-silence/), and there is a bill on the floor for this Sunday (also attached) to repeal the original and pass one with significantly less funding which would compromise the quality of the orientation model we are trying to establish.

If you are not familiar, the OINK MIDDVIEW Bill pledges to fund 50% of mandatory embedded-within-orientation trips for all first year students beginning in the fall of 2013. This 50% would come from SGA reserves. There has been extensive research done to show that students support the use of SGA reserves in this fashion as it will serve all first year students as well as provide leadership opportunities for all students. Included in the bill is the expectation that the orientation program will eventually be completely funded by Old Chapel.

We're asking you to come to our meeting this Sunday evening at 7 in the Crest room to show support for this bill. It is the efforts of many people (Katy Smith-Abbot, Derek Doucet, Doug Adams, Shirley Collado, Anne Runkel '11, MMC, MOP, and many others).

Please contact either of us with any questions!
Thank you!

FOO RESPONSE TEAM
February 18th- 19th
Did you miss out on the opportunity to be a FOO guide? Or maybe you just couldn't commit to all the trainings during J-term. Here is another opportunity to help out with FOO. Every year there is a response team formed to help out, should any FOO trips get into trouble. It is made up of students with a background in both wilderness/emergency medicine, and strong winter travel skills. Also, this is a PAID job. We are on call from when the trips leave on Saturday, February 18th, until all the trips are back safely on the 19th.
If you are interested in being part of the FOO response team, please email tfields@middlebury.edu as soon as possible. Include a brief summary of your medical experience and certifications, as well as your winter travel/camping experience. Please note, WFR, EMT or WEMT are all acceptable first aid certifications, however WFA is not a sufficient level.

Happy Trails
